Alleppey, an important tourist destination of Kerala, with it’s large network of inland canals has earned the sobriquet "Venice of the east" This backwater country is also home to diverse animal and bird life. Alleppey is known for its spectacular snake - boat races, each manned by over a hundred oarsmen, held on the second Saturday of August, every year.
